Quinceañera Ministry
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is…”(Colossians, 3, 1)
In the Diocese of Reno, we collaborate with families and parishes, to give “new meaning” to this tradition, and to embrace it as an auspicious opportunity for evangelization.
What is a Quinceañera?
The Quinceañera is a deeply rooted tradition of the Hispanic people; it is the celebration of the young lady’s fifteenth birthday with her family and friends in two formal events: a blessing by the Church and a fiesta of fellowship.
Ritual practices of popular religiosity imported from Mexico in the United States today are not only forms of prayer, but they also serve to link Hispanic Americans with their Mexican heritage and to assist them in preserving their cultural identity.
Act of thanksgiving and dedication: Loving God, I thank you for the gift of life for creating me in your image and likeness and for calling me to be your daughter through baptism. Thank you for sending your Son Jesus to save me and your Holy Spirit to sanctify me. I will say “yes” to all that you will for me in your goodness and love. With your grace I commit myself to serve my brothers and sisters all my life. Amen.
