Diocesan Catholic Committee for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
The Catholic Committee for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts is a Reno diocesan committee of concerned Catholic lay people and clergy with the chairman and chaplain appointed by the Bishop of Reno. The Committee’s mission is to promote the constructive use of the programs of the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts of the USA, and Camp Fire Boys and Girls to meet the Youth Ministry goals for the Catholic youth of the Diocese. The Committee is an advisory asset to the local councils of the national youth organizations. It also administers the programs of the National Catholic Committee on Scouting (BSA) and the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (GSUSA & Camp Fire) within the Diocese of Reno including the Catholic religious emblem programs, retreats, and other activities involving the youth’s personal responsibilities as a vital member of the Church. The Committee seeks to strengthen the relationship between the local councils and the Catholic church in Northern Nevada, encourage the development of Catholic scout units as part of parish life at every parish, and provide organizational support to Catholic units already formed.
